UK radio licences require you to retain a recording of your output as broadcast and produce it to Ofcom on request — Licence Condition 8 for community radio, and the equivalent condition for community DAB (C-DSP). The catch: only a recording taken off-air proves what was actually transmitted.

Why off-air and not the studio feed?
Your licence requires a recording of output as broadcast — what was actually transmitted. A studio or stream recording is made before the transmitter, so it can't evidence a transmitter or multiplex outage, or dead air on the real signal. Off-air capture, taken in your coverage area, is the source that proves what listeners received.
How long must recordings be kept?
42 days, produced to Ofcom on request (Licence Condition 8 for community radio; the equivalent for C-DSP). We retain off-air audio for the full window, continuously, honouring legal holds — and you can set it longer if you like.
What does an Ofcom request look like?
Open the dashboard, choose the window, and download the exact clip in one click — bundled with the programme schedule, music log and GPS location. Any silence is explained with the transmission event that caused it, so a dropout reads as a transmitter fault we caught, not a hole in your evidence. Your wider monitoring history stays private.
Is the online-stream recording compliant on its own?
No — and we say so clearly in the dashboard. Stream and listen-again feeds are useful monitoring value-add, but only an off-air feed satisfies the as-broadcast requirement.
